Broad coalition in Los Angeles holds march and rally at 10 a.m. from Placita Olvera to ICE detention center and at 4 p.m. from City Hall to ICE detention center. Participants are asked to wear white as a symbol of solidarity and resilience.

Los Angeles, CA – As part of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FAIR) national week of action to demand President Biden and Congress protect families, including immigrant families, and not fund incoming President Trump’s deportation machine, SEIU-United Service Workers West, which represents over 40,000 property service workers across California, in coordination with CHIRLA, labor unions, faith organizations, other immigrant rights and social justice organizations, and NDLON – is leading a march and rally on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, titled “International Day of Migrant Solidarity and Action.” December 18 marks International Migrants Day.

The morning gathering location is Placita Olvera at 10:00 a.m. The march of about 1.5 miles heads towards the ICE detention center downtown Los Angeles where it culminates in a rally featuring keynote speakers. The afternoon gathering will be in front of Los Angeles City Hall at 4:00 p.m., marching towards the ICE detention center where it culminates in a rally with speakers and musical performances.

ABOUT THE WEEK OF ACTION: As part of the week of action, FIRM network member organizations are holding rallies, town halls, and other activities nationwide this week to spotlight immigrant communities’ resilience in the face of xenophobia, racism, and uncertainty.

Background: The 118th Congress and President Biden can take action by voting NO to increased funding requests for immigration enforcement and detention, vote YES to decreases in funding for immigration enforcement and detention, vote NO on Reconciliation Bills that attempt to attack and persecute immigrant communities everywhere, and extend protections for immigrant families such as those with TPS, DACA, and others, to prevent or delay the impact of the Trump Administration’s attack on immigrant and mixed status families in the U.S.
