Los Angeles, CA – On Day 1 of Fast for our Families workers were joined by community allies from CLUE and held a candlelight vigil in the evening. Workers get ready for Day 2 of Fast for our Families.

Fasting workers will remind city leaders of the once in a lifetime opportunity they have to ensure that the mega-events Los Angeles will be hosting in the coming years, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, uplift working families and communities rather than line the pockets of special corporate interests.

Tourism workers in Los Angeles have been fighting for an increase to the Living Wage Ordinance for over a year and a half now which would raise the wage to $25/hour immediately and to $30/hour by 2028. With the rising cost of housing and healthcare, especially during this holiday season, workers are forced to make difficult choices like choosing whether to feed their families or make rent. Tourism workers have taken the step of participating in the fast to call attention to their dire circumstances.
