Airport Workers Honor Black History Month

“NO WORK IS INSIGNIFICANT. ALL LABOR THAT UPLIFTS HUMANITY HAS DIGNITY.”- MARTIN LUTHER KING

Our union SEIU-USWW envisions a society where all workers and their families live and work in dignity and equality. This Black History Month we recognize airport workers like LAX employee Tim Maddox, who won his union, but continues to fight for airport workers across the country and around the world. Growing up in Detroit his parents were involved in labor and civil rights movements and his mother even brought Rosa Parks to speak at his elementary school. He carries the legacy of civil rights leaders like Rosa Parks, as he confronts powerful corporations and demands fair wages and union rights for everyone.

As airport workers throughout California, we also honor the legacy of great African American leaders like Martin Luther King, who understood the connections between racial equality, worker justice and economic equality. Let’s all help create a better future for ourselves by working together to improve standards for all airport workers.

Coming together as a union we have the power to make a brighter future for ourselves and our families. Let’s keep fighting in 2019 and beyond!

Northen California passenger service workers: be part of our historic fight as we move toward winning a strong contract that unites passenger service workers for stonger standards across employers.

Menzies and Covenant Aviation Security members: be part of the fight as we move toward winning a strong contract for ourselves and our families in 2019.

LAX workers: We will continue to build power and improve standards for all LAX workers as we fight back against ongoing attacks.

“THE LABOR MOVEMENT WAS THE PRINCIPAL FORCE THAT TRANSFORMED MISERY AND DESPAIR INTO HOPE AND PROGRESS. OUT OF ITS BOLD STRUGGLES, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL REFORM GAVE BIRTH TO UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE, OLD AGE PENSIONS, GOVERNMENT RELIEF FOR THE DESTITUTE, AND, ABOVE ALL, NEW WAGE LEVELS THAT MEANT NOT MERE SURVIVAL BUT A TOLERABLE LIFE.”-MARTIN LUTHER KING

We’re stronger together.
